Ep. 3 - When three is not a crowd.

The other day, passing by my lovely Praça das Flores, I guess that for the first time I noticed it is more triangular than anything else. It’s funny how most shapes is our lives are squares or rectangles but when it comes to love, a triangle is so often present. In our love life, we’ve all been involved, at least once, in a love triangle. In our sex live, we’ve all been involved, at least once, in a threesome. It’s like sex without condom, approve of it or not, we’ve all done it, assuming the risks.

A love triangle and a threesome have a lot in common but are definitely not the same. When you have a sex affair with someone, no matter how many rubbers you use, there is always the risk of falling in love. When you have a sex affair as a threesome, even if just for the fantasy of it, reality may also present you with love. And there you have it: a love triangle. Only this time, everyone knows about everybody from the beginning, no betrayals, no surprises. What then? Could you make it work? What do you do? Buy a triangular diner table? Buy a bed for three? Buy one of those pick up trucks with three places in front so you can all hold hands while one drives?

In Praça das Flores you have Pão de Canela on one side, you have Flor de Sal on the other … and what about the third side? In several occasions of our life we say: «Oh my God!» (the father). Or we say: «Oh Jesus!» (the son). But whoever calls for the Holy Ghost? Is a threesome relationship doomed to be a two plus one and never a trio? Is a trio ever going to stand a ghost of a chance with a relationship?

I’ve always been a believer that our sexuality is perhaps the most important milestone of our personality. But how come our personality can take twice as much in sex but not really in love? Why do we say that three, in sex, is some and three, in a relationship, is a crowd?
